What makes something an heirloom? Five generations and lots of love! This is the classic fudge frosting that both of my grandmothers and Mom made ALL the time - an heirloom recipe that is perfect on brownies, sheet cake, as a glaze for bundt cakes, or drizzled over ice cream. Every year Skipper requests a homemade yellow cake with this fudge frosting for his December birthday, and my little guy usually wants homemade banana cake with this fudge frosting for his birthday too. Hands down, it's everyone's favorite!
I remember standing on a stool watching my Gram make this for her famous brownies, and after waiting what seemed like a century for it to cool down, lucky me always got to lick the spoon! Birthday rules prevail though - if it's your birthday, you get to lick the whisk and clean out the pan!

This velvety Creamy Tomato Basil Tortellini Soup with a touch of cream and tender cheese tortellini has always been a family favorite! Perfect on a cold winter night, this slow cooker soup is so easy to make, perfectly flavorful, and nice and hearty – happy tummies, happy hearts!
Everyone loves fresh cheese tortellini - and you can add extra to keep everyone happy, or for a heartier soup. We had a surprise winner in the homemade mac 'n cheese contest this week! And it couldn't be healthier or more delicious!
I found cubed butternut squash at the market this week, and couldn't resist picking up a package. The rest, as they say, is delicious history! Insanely wonderful flavor, beautiful deep orange color, smooth-as-silk cheese sauce...it was a match just waiting to happen! And from start to finish, no baking required and only thirty minutes to the table. Perfect for a slam-jam packed school night! Are you ready for a PARTY? Cake Batter Chocolate Chip Cookies - loaded with cake batter flavor, semi-sweet chocolate chips, white chocolate chips and a TON of sprinkles make for the prettiest and most delicious cookies ever!
Thick and chewy, loaded with tender vanilla flavor, and just screaming with colorful sprinkle colors - what's not to love? Vintage cakes...they always remind me of home! Almost always mixed by hand in a heavy batter bowl with a wooden spoon...with simple ingredients and recipes that have been perfected through the years and handed down from generation to generation.
If you only pick one thing out to bake this fall, you've got to make this old-fashioned Pumpkin Cake with Vanilla Bean Cream Cheese Frosting - so easy to make, bursting with pumpkin and spice flavor, and perfectly delicious! It's sure to become one of YOUR heirloom recipes too! You might as well confess. When a bowl of this is placed in front of you at a restaurant, it disappears - all of it! This wonderful Fresh Spinach & Artichoke Dip takes only minutes to make at home and is perfect for a birthday celebration, appetizers on the deck or a football party!
And it's even better when you make it at home with FRESH ingredients! Are you ready to indulge? We're totally obsessed with this Butter Pecan Caramel Cheesecake! If you love butter pecan ice cream, and if you love cheesecake, this one is a match made in heaven!
We're ready for all of the flavors of fall - cinnamon, pumpkin, salted caramel, apple.... This silky cheesecake is perfect for a special fall celebration - and with six birthdays to celebrate this month, it's nice to have something other than birthday cake for a change of pace. Loaded with tiny bits of toasted butter pecans, browned butter and silky caramel flavor! And the cinnamon sweet whipped cream and salted caramel drizzle? Perfection! One of my little ones has been sick for two days with a fever and sore throat, and all she wants is Broccoli Cheese Soup. What's a mama to do? Yup, time to get the soup pan out and whip of some of her favorite!
With six kiddos, picking up our favorite Panera Broccoli Cheese Soup is pretty pricey, but I've got the secret recipe for homemade that tastes EVEN BETTER! Sick kiddo tested, sick kiddo approved! A warm bowlful of this, and I even got a smile from her! It seems like every year when school starts and the crisp days of autumn start to unfold that the requests for home-baked cookies start to multiply! And especially for these old-fashioned chewy oatmeal cookies....created especially for those in the family that don't like raisins. I know, it's hard to imagine! But one bite and you'll agree that the chocolate chips are perfect in these chewy cookies with a thick and soft center.
Creamy butter, brown sugar and just a touch of molasses give these a wonderful flavor. Use old-fashioned oats for maximum chewiness and texture. And try as you might, I don't think you'll find a better oatmeal cookie recipe than this one. Perfect for a school lunch-box, picnic basket, or cookie jar just waiting for someone to visit! Boy, that sure got your attention! And what exactly is TWISTED Mac & Cheese? This is my "twist" on Chrissy Teigen's Baked Macaroni & Cheese recipe. Hers is pretty darn good, but mine is better! Three kinds of creamy cheese goodness, tender noodles, and the most flavorful savory and cheesy crumb topping that you've ever had. And that's really what sets this recipe apart from all the others!
Like most of us, I have an arsenal of macaroni & cheese recipes, and it's amazing that each of my kiddos seems to have a different "favorite" - but this is one of our all time favorites! HOT TIME IN THE CITY! Is there anything better than the Cleveland Cavs or the Cleveland Indians? Both of our teams are ON FIRE in 2016 and 2017, and we're so excited now that baseball playoffs are finally here and that our Indians are taking a run at the World Series again! And as long as we're watching the games, and especially the playoffs, Mama's got to have the perfect appetizers for all these watch parties!
And while there's nothing better than Fire Roasted Salsa with fresh chips, this Fried Queso Cheese with Fire Roasted Salsa is no wimp! Ooey, gooey melted cheese with a touch of spice and sweet...all you need is a tall cold one to go along with this. And everyone will be trying to figure out EXACTLY what it is that you put in the seasoning to make these so darn good! We seem to have serious criminal activity going on at home - I made two batches of these delightful Pumpkin Cookies this weekend and they have DISAPPEARED! I thought I noticed a few missing as I turned my back after taking a fresh pan from the oven, but by the time they were frosted with silky Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting, they were flying out of my kitchen like a magic show!
I can't say that I blame them, these are the perfect little cookie to enjoy on a crisp autumn afternoon. And there have been serious comments made about how much these taste like homemade Pumpkin Roll - and these are so much easier and faster to make! |
