I'm a sucker for anything French or Parisian...and it is really hard walking past Au Bon Pain French café every day! The little café tables, the French-pressed coffee, and the smells from the bakery just take you to another world! We love their fresh-made soups, but it's the English Toffee Cookies that are my downfall!
Tender on the inside, crispy on the outside, and loaded with English Toffee bits - and at almost $2.00 each, a pricey little treat! It's a good thing that I was able to create my own version of this luscious little cookie! It really is my most favorite cookie in all the world!

Irish Shepherd's Pie has always been more a staple of traditional Irish cooking than corned beef and cabbage. That, and my family doesn't really like corned beef and cabbage makes this a wonderful menu selection for a St. Patrick's Day feast!
Although traditional Irish Shepherd's Pie is made with lamb, my gang prefers beef, so that's the way we roll with this recipe. This recipe is one that I keep coming back to over and over...so basic, and so good! Oh, the fun we have with St. Patrick's Day! It's typically a very green day for us...a tradition that dates back to when I was a kid. My Mom would serve us green milk, and green mashed potatoes...and always some kind of green vegetable. These, of course, are much better than green vegetables!
An incredibly dark and moist chocolate cupcake - perfect in every way - covered with a delicious double milk chocolate buttercream frosting. You can always stop there....but why not go for the gold and take it to the marshmallow limit? So this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. my son told me that he needed to bring cookies to school the next day for their "pi" party. Now, one would think that they would actually want PIE to celebrate Pi Day....but no. And not just any cookie - he wanted homemade mint and chocolate cookies.
As soon as I made this bread, I was completely and hopelessly in love!
This takes a bit of time to make, because you are grating three different types of cheese by hand, but it is so worth it! There are a number of "interesting" ingredients - but the combination creates a deep and complex flavor. This has been such a long, blustery and wintery week - it's beginning to feel like Winter will never end. One of our favorite chicken flavors is Teriyaki Chicken - especially wonderful on the grill with fresh roasted pineapple, sweet onions and peppers. But with the winter dragging on, we needed our favorite baked up for a flavorful dinner.
When I saw a fresh fruit cart filled to the brim with fresh oranges and green leaves, it stopped me in my tracks! Have you EVER seen fresh oranges with leaves attached at the market? I'm sure they thought I was a nut case as I filled up my cart with dozens of these beauties...some to eat right away, and the rest to inspire me - but what to make? Orange Chicken - always wonderful, but I had promised the kids cookies. So Orange Milano Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies it had to be!
These tender and chewy cookies are so wonderful! The combination of orange and dark chocolate is something that has to be experienced - especially warm from the oven! After I pulled these out of the oven, everyone came running. And after joyfully chowing down on the first one and reaching for the next, Noah confessed that he was totally prepared to hate these cookies - too weird for his taste - but he LOVED them! Just when you think you've had the best chocolate chip cookie ever, this zinger recipe will grab your taste buds. If you've never cooked with orange extract or fresh orange zest, you have got to try these! Warm, fragrant, chewy and wonderful - all rolled into one delectable cookie! Sunday morning after church I had to make a quick stop at the market to pick up some flour - my cookie baking kids have gone thru my entire supply this week (much to my surprise). With the bad weather and so early in the morning, there was nothing but quiet - the best time to make a quick trip. Skipper dropped me at the door so I didn't have to trudge thru the slushy snow. - such a nice guy! Even nicer was what was waiting for me just inside the door - big baskets of beautiful blooming tulips! I really needed a reminder that Spring is on the way...and these fragrant blooms had me smiling and thinking of warm days coming soon! I think our new store really is booby-trapped - by the time you walk thru the fresh blooming flowers and hit the fresh produce - bursting with color and fresh scents - I had all sorts of cooking and baking inspiration. Of course, that trip for a single bag of flour turned into a cart full of blooms, some fresh herbs and a peaceful stroll with my guy. Nice! |
