For young and old alike, a Yankee Doodle Dandy Sweets & Treats Board is loaded with more fun than fireworks! For my Fourth of July celebration, I used a fun and festive mix of some homemade treats and some store-bought items too. Mix and match your favorites for something wonderful and unique every time – whether you’re making it for your little ones, or as a treat to enjoy for a summertime patriotic celebration. Pick your red, white & blue favorites and let’s party in the U.S.A.!

YANKEE DOODLE DANDY!

Although many of us think of the Star Spangled Banner during fireworks shows on the Fourth of July, one of my favorites is "Yankee Doodle Dandy”, a song that became popular in America during the Revolutionary War. George M. Cohan is famous for his version of the song and the film celebrating the same, which starts with the lyrics “I’m the kid that’s all the candy, I’m a Yankee Doodle dandy!” – which is how this wonderful Fourth of July board came to be named!

Patriotic Chocolate Whoopie Cakes (Chocolate with Marshmallow Cream Filling & Star Sprinkles)
Red, White & Blue Scotcheroos
Patriotic Ultimate Marshmallow Treats (with Patriotic Rice Krispies)

HOW TO MAKE AN EPIC FOURTH OF JULY SWEETS & TREATS BOARD:

Start with a color scheme and theme! Look for an original theme and vibrant, rich colors! We love watching Yankee Doodle Dandy every fourth of July, so that served as inspiration for this whimsical board. I concentrated on shades of red, white and blue for this patriotic treat board – pick your favorites and don’t be afraid to try something new and fun!
Fresh is best! When putting together an epic treat board, I try to bake treats the day before I’ll be serving, or bake and freeze ahead of time if making this for a large gathering.
If you’ll be including fresh produce, pick fresh fruits and vegetables that are in season and try to buy organic produce if you can. You may have fresh summer fruits from your garden ready to pick right now, but local farmers markets are also a great place to start your search. Trader Joes and Whole Foods are always a great option as well - they always have a great selection of organic produce. If you're making this for a crowd, Costco is my go-to for fresh organic produce!
Aim for abundance! Choose a platter that barely fits the amount of treats you're serving, so that it will look very full – and include as many different types of patriotic-themed treats as you can! This little trick creates a vibe of generosity and abundance and looks so good when you serve!
Consider using a few less-common treats: This platter includes a few surprises which add to my colorful patriotic theme! While less-common sweets can be more expensive or hard to find, people love when you include at least one unexpected item to shake things up a bit. Another secret – buy holiday-themed treats as soon as you see them displayed – you’ll be dismayed if you hunt for them close to the holiday and aren’t able to find them!
For premium freshness, prepare your treat board no sooner than 2 hours before party time, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate if necessary until you are ready to serve.

The secret of a great sweet & treats board is to find your favorites treats – and to have a few surprises! The goal is to assemble a board filled with texture and color that fits with your theme.
For my Yankee Doodle Dandy Sweets & Treats Board, I used a fun and festive mix of homemade baked treats and some store-bought sweets as well. Mix and match your old-fashioned favorites with something surprising and new, to create something wonderful and unique every time – whether you’re making it for your little ones, or as a treat to enjoy for a summertime patriotic celebration! MIX IT UP – ADD MORE FUN & FESTIVE, SWEET & SAVORY RED, WHITE & BLUE TREATS IF YOU’D LIKE!

Fourth of July Brownies with Fudge Frosting
Popcorn
Yogurt Covered Raisins
Marshmallows
Fresh Watermelon Wedges
Fred Strawberries, Cherries, Blueberries & Blackberries
Chocolate Covered Cherries
Red, White & Blue Tootsie Rolls
Saltwater Taffy

HOW I MAKE THIS:

Choose a nice solid cutting board or wooden serving tray to create your platter.
Set out your favorites so that you know what you’ll be working with.
Place small dishes or bowls on board that will hold smaller treats.
Next, place larger bakery items on your board – brownies, cupcakes, cookies, whoopie cakes, cheesecake slices, chocolate-covered pretzels, etc.
Next, add fresh fruit if you’ll be including. Add fruit dip (optional) in a star-shaped serving bowl.
Arrange candy in patterns around and across the board, filling in empty spaces with smaller treats.
Fill small bowls with smaller candies to complete your board.
Start with small amounts of each item – you can always refresh your platter as time goes by!

YIELD: Serves 4 - 20 and perfect for a summertime patriotic party!
