There are periods of time when my kiddos just like old-fashioned favorites. They get plenty of new recipes to try and are usually pretty good guinea pigs - for the most part. Generally if a new twist on an old favorite gets their thumbs up, I know if it good to go. But this is one recipe that they just don't like anyone messing with...ooey, gooey, soft and chewy!
But that doesn't mean we can't get creative with the SHAPE, right? I've been making and enjoying these treats since I was a kid, but every now and then, I still like to shake things up!
My.Oh.My...company's coming and she LOVES German Chocolate Cake! My sweet sister-in-law is flying in for a long weekend, and we are looking forward to a relaxing and fun time!
My mom-in-law always made Mary a homemade German Chocolate Cake for her birthday up until a few years ago, so I thought this would be the perfect time to surprise her with a homemade and absolutely World's Best German Chocolate Cake with Coconut Pecan Filling and Dark Chocolate Ganache.
And when I tell you that this tastes even more wonderful than it looks, you're going to want some too!
Now that the playoffs are almost over, it's time to be thinking about Super Bowl parties! And even if our favorite teams were not invited to dance this year, this is a long-time family favorite recipe that always disappears as fast as it appears!
And even if you are not lovin' the game, Bloomin' Pizza Bread is a fan favorite every single time that we make it!
One of our favorite Christmas Eve appetizers are Ham & Dill Rollups. I was thinking about how much everyone loves these, when it suddenly occurred to me...
What if I de-constructed the recipe? Oh.My.Goodness! I don't know why I didn't think about doing this years ago, because this is such a timesaver in making, but still delivers the fabulous ham and crunchy dill taste that everyone loves!
My oh my. Consider yourself warned!
These delicious Buffalo Chicken Bites are SERIOUSLY addictive! I may have eaten one or two (or three or four) just while we were putting these on the tray to serve - or maybe it was my helpers! These are so simple to make, and they disappeared in a FLASH!
Don't you just love January? The month of new beginnings...a time to relax from all of the hustle and bustle of the holidays, and just enjoy a lazy brunch with family and friends!
This is the PERFECT brunch! An easy overnight casserole, filled with all of the wonderful things you love in Eggs Benedict - chewy English muffins, salty Canadian bacon or ham, rich eggs and cream, and drizzled with creamy and warm Hollandaise Sauce! If you're making breakfast for a bunch, this is so much easier than poaching eggs and making individual Eggs Benedict - and even more delicious is the consensus of the gang!
Happy New Year! And nothing screams New Year like Chinese food! I can't wait until January 28th - Chinese New Year - to share this with you! And whether you are celebrating the Year of the Rooster, or celebrating the start of 2017, you are going to LOVE these tender and delicious Chicken Egg Rolls with Sweet & Sour Sauce.
We actually enjoyed these on New Year's Day - the perfect little appetizer is also a perfect dinner when you serve it with hot rice. And this Sweet & Sour Sauce, with just a hint of fresh pineapple juice and Asian Sweet Chili Sauce, is WONDERFUL drizzled on top of white or brown rice!
Another new year, another new start! And there's no better way to start than with a great breakfast!
Healthy and delicious, perfectly dense and flavorful - these whole wheat muffins are stuffed with sweet apples and lots of cinnamon spice! And with only 185 calories each, they are a tasty and satisfying way to start the day!
My parents were eternal romantics! They eloped on New Years Eve, and so that night has always been a family time to celebrate!
We usually celebrate at home with family and friends, with lots of champagne, appetizers, laughter and good memories!
And for such a special night, I like to pull out all of the stops - and this Bacon Gorgonzola Almond & Pomegranate Cheese Ball is a showstopper!
Wowza. It's always been hard to decide on our favorite holiday ham, but the contest has been won!
This family-favorite holiday ham is a perfect combination of sweet and savory! Apricot and Raspberry preserves, mixed with spicy Dijon mustard and a touch of brown sugar create the absolute best glaze I have ever made! We enjoyed this so much at Christmas that I had numerous requests to make again for our New Year's dinner.
Now that we're entering into some serious winter weather, it's time to pull out the old family favorites! This Beefy Wild Rice Bake is something that I have been making for decades, and always make during Christmas break - it makes for a delicious dinner and seriously good leftovers for the kids during the week!
And it's been so long since I shot photos of this, it was time to do that as well!
I do believe that I have created a monster!
Now that our little one has figured out how much fun it is to help me out by crushing candy canes with his Little Tikes toy hammer, I have been in a perpetual state of trying to find new recipes that will allow him to help me out! I can't believe how many boxes of candy canes we've gone thru this year, and I have learned to double-bag with heavy duty freezer bags before he starts banging away!
And if he didn't look so darn cute with his little "Cookie Helper" apron and chef hat, it might be easier to tell him we're all done with candy cane baking!
Okay guys. I'm going to just make a public service announcement now. It's for your own good...
These Peppermint Bark Brownie Bites should come with a warning label!
I have never had such a runaway hit on Christmas treats!
Nothing screams Christmas party like some soft and chewy old-fashioned Big Soft Ginger Christmas Cookies!
I start with our family-favorite Big Soft Ginger Cookie recipe, and with the magic of some good quality white chocolate, we take these to the next level!
I just love the week before Christmas...it's my happy time and place! The kids are all at home celebrating no school, the shopping is done and the house is all decorated. But my favorite part is the memories that come with baking and cooking our holiday favorites! So many memories of people and years past, and so many new memories to be made. Good times!
This year our littlest was so excited to help with the holiday baking, and you can only imagine how big his eyes got when I told him to run and get his Little Tikes hammer so that we could start! He donned his "Christmas Cookie Helper" apron and chef hat lickety split, and the fun began!
So this weekend I've been putting the final touches on the list of goodies and treats to be included in my holiday gift boxes this year...and I just had to share this wonderful and easy recipe with you all!
If you love Pecan Brittle, you will adore this! Even my little ones that aren't crazy about pecans are addicted to this!
And believe it or not, 15 minutes and a microwave are all that are standing between you and a batch of this snappy and crunchy Pecan Brittle! With this fabulously easy method there is no madness, just perfect Pecan Brittle every time!
Ahhhh.....here's to cold winter nights and wonderful dinners with friends and family!
If you are looking for the PERFECT menu for a dinner party or other special event, you are in the right spot! Crazy tender beef with a rich and creamy mushroom and onion beef sauce that just melts in your mouth! And the best part?
Isn't it amazing how fast the holidays creep up on us? Thanksgiving is barely past, and BAM - December happens!
At the beginning of the month I usually look back at menus and notes from past Christmas holidays - and start assembling a framework for what hopefully will help keep me organized through the holidays. Sometimes being a list-maker can be a curse or a blessing!
This is a family favorite recipe - we've been making this for years, and everyone is always so happy when it makes its first appearance of the season - warm caramel with the most delicious secret! And while my family is sometimes happy to eat this right of the counter as it is cooling from the oven, it also perfect for parties. And in a pretty basket with a bow, this makes a perfect little gift!
My family is kind of crazy about sweet potatoes...but crazy about them in different ways! Every Thanksgiving I end up making two different kinds - my Maple Pecan Streusel Sweet Potato Casserole, and then a marshmallow-topped version for everyone else. And no matter how many marshmallows I pile on top, there are never quite enough. Can you relate?
But the lightbulb went on, and I have created the perfect solution! What about swirling marshmallow creme in between layers of lusciuos brown sugar infused sweet potatoes, and then topping with even more mini-marshmallows?
This is the perfect appetizer for the holidays! Not does it taste amazing, but it looks so festive too!
We love the combination of savory and sweet - smoked bacon, creamy gorgonzola cheese, sweet and tart dried cranberries and roasted almonds! And I hope you forgive me if I kinda make my cheese balls inside-out and naked!
My family is either blessed or cursed...
It's hard having a food-blogging Mama, and probably harder being a guinea pig for EVERYTHING!
I am finalizing my Thanksgiving Day menu, and before I add anything to the big day menu, I have to try it out ahead of time and tweak it just to make sure that it is perfect!
And my family is just so darn picky about corn! I always save fresh sweet corn and fresh raspberries from the summer for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners - thank goodness for my Foodsaver!
Oh my gosh....I picked up several warm loaves of garlic parmesan bread at the market this morning, and drove around for a few hours with that incredible aroma just hanging all over my car...I could hardly wait to get home and make something with that bread. It was either that or just start tearing off hunks of it and eat it while I was driving around running errands!
So this was the jumping off point! Canadian bacon? Pineapple slices? Monterey Jack cheese? We are good to go!
Can you believe Thanksgiving is just three weeks from today? Every year the BIGGEST FOODIE HOLIDAY comes faster and faster!
We have hosted Thanksgiving Dinner for 28 years now, and I've compiled my organizing ideas and our favorite Thanksgiving recipes all in one place to make your Thanksgiving preparation that much easier and delicious!
If you click on the Thanksgiving in my Holiday Section, and the Pies pages in my Bakery & Sweet Shop Section, you can also find them easily.
Isn't Halloween fun? So many parties filled with fun and gore!
We always have a little party with the family, usually the weekend before trick-or-treating, just so that we can kick back and enjoy some of our scariest favorites!
This year, it was six dozen cupcakes for various events! And what could be more fun that these?
We are getting REALLY spoiled with the warm fall weather - up in the upper 70's at the end of October - it's crazy! We keep trying to squeeze as many autumn activities as we can into every weekend. Today, it's all about the apple orchard, raking leaves and carving some ginormous pumpkins for tomorrow night. Throw in a few Halloween and birthday parties, along with watching our Cleveland Indians make a run at winning the World Series. Crazy fun around here!
But one scary thing keeps coming up....the Farmer's Almanac keeps talking about the polar vortexes and crazy-cold winter we should expect this year. As we were carving the pumpkins, they were INCHES thick - thicker than I can remember pumpkins ever being in the past...and if I recall correctly, that's supposed to mean a wicked winter!
