A soft and chewy brownie cookie base, topped with Mint Buttercream Frosting, drizzled with Chocolate Ganache and topped with chunks of Andes Mints? SO MINTY GOOD!
Outside the snow is falling and friends are calling my name....inside it's the perfect time for a little Ultimate Grasshopper Cookie! This is the cookie-version of our family-favorite Mint Brownies (often fondly referred to as "Starbucks Brownies"), a very special treat usually made only for Christmas and St. Patrick's Day!
A soft and chewy brownie cookie base, topped with Mint Buttercream Frosting, drizzled with Chocolate Ganache and topped with chunks of Andes Mints? SO MINTY GOOD!
Oh. My. Heavens. Tiny, little bite-sized snowflakes that melt in your mouth! And as much fun as trying to catch snowflakes with your tongue!
Now that the holiday baking season is in full swing, I wanted to share a perfect little cookie with you! This is the third of three fabulous recipes that I've created for Rodelle Kitchen for their month long holiday cookie celebration Cookies By The Dozens - the best of 2017 holiday cookies. It seems like there has been a lot of chocolate and caramel going on, and I wanted to give you a special little something filled with a touch of pure vanilla and almond flavor that will just melt your heart...
Every now and then there is a new cookie that just takes over the universe by storm...and the newest are these wonderful Rainbow Kiss Cookies! And if you have a hard time choosing between Peanut Butter Blossoms and Chewy Fudge Brownies, or even Peppermint Bark Brownie Bites, your life just got a whole lot more difficult. Are they a brownie, or a cookie? I guess it really doesn't matter what you want to call them, because they are just simply fabulous and a real crowd-pleaser!
A thick chocolatey brownie, rolled in the most colorful rainbow nonpareils you can find, and a milk chocolate kiss in the middle - what's not to love? And while you might be thinking that Christmas nonpareils were just made for this - the bright red, white and green colors just don't pop as much as the colorful circus colors you find in traditional nonpareils. And everyone knows its all about getting noticed on the cookie tray, right? (Or are you one of those people that hide the really good cookies in the hopes that they will survive the initial rush at the cookie platter?)
I don't know what possessed me, but I mixed up five batches of cookie dough yesterday, and today I am a baking fool! It seemed like such a great idea at the time, but even for us, that's a lot of cookie baking!
These Mint Chocolate Chip Cookies are totally worth the time and effort - but I should have called them "Goldilocks Cookies", because they can be made to your perfect minty taste! Thick and chewy, and so good warm from the oven with a tall glass of cold milk!
There are days when I get so involved with recipe development, photographing and blogging that I almost forget to make dinner! And now that the holiday baking season is in full swing, and my baking list is long, I wanted something that took only a few minutes to throw together and have simmering away in the slow cooker.
And this Creamy Taco Soup is PERFECT! Some of my little ones aren't totally crazy about Chili, but they absolutely DEVOUR this wonderful Creamy Taco Soup!
From one cookie lover to another, the only thing better than a classic Snickerdoodle Cookie is a Chocolate Snickerdoodle! Chewy, fudgy and a delicious twist on the traditional snickerdoodle. And warm from the oven? I'm in heaven!
These are totally addictive, and another family favorite that we hope you will love as much as we do!

One of our favorite family traditions is watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thanksgiving morning, everyone munching on a short assortment of appetizers while I get dinner going in the kitchen. And these Turkey & Cranberry Pinwheels have been part of that tradition for many years. We ONLY have them on Thanksgiving morning - don't ask me why! Something this wonderful deserves to be shared much more frequently than that.
This year was an exception to the rule. We had to make an unexpected trip out of town the day after Thanksgiving, and my kiddos and I had prepared a half dozen of these and had them chilling in the fridge. While we sliced a few up on Thanksgiving morning, I put the remaining wraps in the cooler for our road trip to Minneapolis. And they were FABULOUS - sliced up as pinwheels for an appetizer, or cut in half and served as a wrap sandwich on the road.
My Gram was famous for these Peanut Butter Cup Cookies! And when I was a little girl, I was quite certain that she was internationally famous for them...as her recipe was published decades ago in the Dayton's Marketplace cookbook and her church cookbook - it was only years later that I figured out that this was pretty much one of the most common Christmas cookie recipes out there!
But she was famous for making more than 25 dozen of these every holiday season and sharing them with family, friends, co-workers and shut-ins. Back in the day she would buy Reese Miniature Peanut Butter Cups in a large box that were unwrapped - boy, do I wish they still made those! For many years, Gram would always stay with us the week before Christmas and thru the New Year, and she loved helping with the cookie baking. She especially loved making "her" cookies with my little ones, and sneaking them candy that had been peeled for baking when they thought I wasn't looking!
On National Cookie Day, and in celebration of my Gram, it just seems like I need to share this recipe with all of you again!
Chewy, fudgy and thick sugar cookies made fresh from scratch. These are simply wonderful all by themselves, plain and simple with no embellishments, warm from the oven!
You may not recognize these as the base for my famous Chocolate Sugar Cookies with Dark Chocolate Buttercream, but in order to have a great "fancy" sugar cookie, you need to start with a fabulous base sugar cookie. And through the years, this one has always been a family favorite!
If there is one appetizer that I make that is anticipated more or gets gobbled up fast, this is the winner! I'll bet you've never heard of "Snausages", but they have been a family tradition for decades! Single bites of caramelized kielbasa and onions...what could be better? And these are a holiday tradition at our house!
Five simple ingredients, but the special little something in this thick and caramelized sauce is the beer, plain and simple. Here in Cleveland we're lucky to have a wonderful selection of local craft beers, and it is so much fun to use seasonal beers throughout the year! For Thanksgiving, I usually use a hearty stout (Great Lakes Brewing Company Octoberfest) or an orange-infused Blue Moon; for Christmas time I pull out the traditional Great Lakes Christmas Ale. St. Patrick's Day celebrations usually mean a traditional Guinness dry stout. And when we're sailing or partying at the marina, I love to pour in a hearty Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald - a wonderful porter beer. And each variety is absolutely wonderful and sure to become your favorite too!
Santa's not the only one making a list this year! And I'm so excited to share the first of three fabulous recipes that I'll be creating for Rodelle Kitchen to share their month long holiday cookie celebration Cookies By The Dozens - the best of 2017 holiday cookies! You'll want to check back daily to make sure that you see and discover all of the wonderful recipes that the Rodelle Brand Ambassadors are sharing this year!
We love chewy sugar cookies, but my family LOVES these chewy Chocolate Sugar Cookies even more - and when frosted with Dark Chocolate Buttercream Frosting and sprinkled with holiday sprinkles? These are MAGICAL! These are always the first cookies to disappear from cookie trays, and I'll be baking many delicious batches this Christmas season.
Once Thanksgiving is past, we quickly slip into Christmas mode at our house. The autumn decorations can't get put away fast enough before the Christmas trees and holiday decorations start appearing. It's always such a nice surprise and happy memory to pull out favorites from years past, whether its decorations or holiday cookie recipes! And one of the other favorites from years past are these wonderful White Chocolate & Peppermint Chocolate Sugar Cookies - always one of the first batch of cookies baked and happily devoured!
These are the perfect holiday cookie - soft chocolate sugar cookies with a crispy edge and tender cookie center, dipped in silky white chocolate and sprinkled with crushed peppermint candy canes.
Is there anything prettier that Cranberry Pomegranate Sauce? The perfect little holiday relish, so simple to make and beyond delicious! My Fresh Cranberry Raspberry Sauce has always been a family favorite, but this sweet crimson Cranberry Pomegranate Sauce gives it a run for the money!
Sweet juicy pomegranate arils, a touch of fresh ginger and a sprinkle of fresh parsley or cilantro really adds something special to this holiday favorite. Perfect with Roast Turkey, perfect on hearty turkey sandwiches the day after Thanksgiving. But so good with warm brie or on bruschetta with goat cheese. A delight for your eyes and your taste buds!
It's hard to imagine, but there are a few folks out there that aren't crazy for traditional Thanksgiving pies...they don't want any pumpkin, or pecan, or fresh cherry pie - not even Caramel Apple Pie calls to them! And in order to keep all of the natives happy, Mama is making some Buckeye Brownie Pie. Chocolate and peanut butter? Who doesn't love that?
Even more wonderful that it looks! Let's start with a moist and chewy dark chocolate brownie, and top it with the creamiest, swirliest Peanut Butter Buttercream ever!
I don't always do separate posts for icings, but this one is so special that I just needed to share it with you! Peanut Butter Buttercream Frosting - so perfect, so packed with peanut butter flavor, and the perfect consistency to hold frosting ribbons, swirls and twirls! And if the perfect flavor and texture aren't enough, the beautiful caramel color just screams "peanut butter" - YUM!
And it tastes even more creamy and dreamy than it looks! I know you'll love this on cupcakes, brownies and cakes. Perfect for chocolate, vanilla and banana cakes, or fudgy brownies. My little ones (and even the bigger ones) will pinky-wrestle over who gets to lick off the beaters and clean out the bowl!
Of all the recipes in my cookbook and on this blog, this Crab Fettuccine Alfredo is the one that is always requested for birthdays and special events. Tender and fresh fettucine noodles, loaded with delicate crab meat and creamy flavor, it never disappoints!
I've tweaked the process slightly from previous versions, and the result is so rich and creamy - and lightened up just a bit!
As much as my family loves Fresh Cherry Pie, I didn't think there was anything I could do to improve it. But boys and girls, today is a new day! And we're gonna start with a new kind of Cherry Almond Pie that is going to knock.your.socks.off!
My Fresh Cherry Pie has just the slightest hint of almond in it...and the secret ingredient in this pie takes that delicate almond flavor to a whole new level. Not to mention crunchy almonds around the edge of a buttery and flaky pie crust. It's simply cherry almond pie perfection!
I just can't resist sharing this with you! And the Lord knows I need wine this week! For lots of other wonderful wine info, visit VinePair.com!
There is nothing like a fresh apple pie baking in the oven...unless it's apple crisp! And for those times when you can't decide, this is the pie for you - Apple Crumble Pie! And with all the craziness in our lives right now, sometimes just to sit down with your honey and share a piece of warm pie is EXACTLY what you need to relax and enjoy the moment, and count your blessings!
Flaky and buttery crust, stuffed with tender cinnamon-sugared apple slices, and topped with all of the things we love in apple crisp - toasted pecans, oatmeal and brown sugar! I've made this pie TWICE in the last week, and it has disappeared as fast as it cools down!
Although I generally try to keep this site "family favorite recipe related", we had a little bit of excitement Sunday night while I was working on this blog. A monster storm with 90-125 mph winds moved unexpectedly and very quickly through Ohio and into Pennsylvania. Luckily I had just turned my computer off before the power went out - and before the trees fell on the house - right above my desk and where I was sitting! To say that the earth shook is an understatement! And while we lost four beautiful sugar maple trees in the backyard, we also had trees down and on top of the front of the house and two cars. No power, monsoon rains, and the most incredible wind I have ever heard in my life. Mile after mile of BIG trees down, everywhere. Everyone has been asking for photos, so I thought I would share them with you. No one was hurt - and that is really all that matters! We are truly blessed!
After being spoiled by generations of fabulous homemade pie bakers, it occurred to me the other day that I could be classified as a pie snob...but really, after you've had fabulous homemade crust and luscious homemade pie fillings all your life, I like to think that we really just appreciate a REALLY GOOD piece of pie!
And if you're like me, you'll appreciate everything that goes into making this Classic Pecan Pie. Toasted pecans...to really bring full flavor to the nuts - because let's face it, isn't that what this pie is all about? Unless of course you're talking about the silky-smooth caramel filling that holds all of these delicious pecans together! This pie doesn't just LOOK crazy beautiful, it is pecan pie perfection...
If you love apple pie, you are going to LOVE these tender and perfect Salted Caramel Apple Pie Bars! A buttery shortbread cookie crust, topped with cinnamon-sugar sliced apples and a brown-sugar oatmeal streusel, drizzled with salted caramel and sprinkled with flaked sea salt - these are apple pie perfection, bite after delicious bite!
This family favorite recipe ranks right up there with fresh baked Classic Apple Pie, Salted Caramel Apple Pie, Upside-Down Caramel Pecan Apple Pie - the perfect little bite of apple pie in bar form. These are the perfect addition to our November Pie Celebration!
Fooled you! I'll bet you thought I was going to start off our official "pie month" with something sweet - but take one look at this homemade Chicken Pot Pie, and you'll know why I'm sharing it first. And after you take one bite, you'll be in love too!
So flaky, so savory and creamy...I've made this twice in the last week and everyone keeps asking for more! And this really is the perfect pie for November! Even if you LOVE tender chicken in this, it is just made for leftover Thanksgiving roast turkey as well!
