​When I think of summertime baby showers and birthday celebrations, I think of family and friends gathering in a casual, relaxed setting to laugh and just have fun.

Food that is unfussy, comforting, rustic, and maybe even quirky is typically involved.  A grazing board is the perfect fit, because you can choose tasty watermelon-themed foods and serve them in a way that people can help themselves and come back for more.  The absolute easiest way to entertain!

"What A Melon" Watermelon Sweets & Treats Board

Over the past few weeks I've been baking up a storm getting ready for a "What A Melon" baby shower, and it's been so much fun trying new recipes and finding so many watermelon-themed candies and treats!  I buy my "watermelon seeds" (Chocolate Covered Sunflower Seeds) in bulk because I love using them on so many things for summertime baking - cookies, cupcakes and watermelon cakes - they are also pretty good just for munching on plain.  

We're looking forward to celebrating a "One In A Melon" first birthday next year as well!

So many smiles when I served this - everyone loved the summertime flavor and watermelon treats!

Watermelon Sweets & Treats Board

INGREDIENTS:
The secret of a great sweet & treats board is to find your favorites treats – and to have a few surprises!  The goal is to assemble a board filled with texture and color that fits with your theme. 
For my Watermelon Sweets & Treats Board, I used a loving mix of some homemade treats and some store-bought items too.  Mix and match your favorites for something wonderful and unique every time – whether you’re making it for a sweet “One In A Melon” birthday party or shower, or as a treat to enjoy for a summertime celebration!  Pick your favorites and HAVE FUN! 
 
BAKERY & HOMEMADE TREATS:  a selection of some of our favorites:

• Watermelon Sugar Cookies – some simple, some decorated
• Watermelon Cupcakes (both mini and regular cupcakes work great)
• Watermelon Meringues
• Watermelon Krispies Treats
• Watermelon Shortbread Cookies
• Watermelon Pretzel Rods (fudge-covered pretzels with drizzle & sprinkles)

 
FRESH SUMMER FRUIT:

• Watermelon Slices
• Chocolate Covered Strawberries (dipped in pink & red white chocolate)

HOW I MAKE THIS:

1. Choose a nice solid cutting board or wooden serving tray to create your platter. 
2. Set out your favorites so that you know what you’ll be working with.
3. Place small dishes or bowls on board that will hold smaller treats.
4. Next, place larger bakery items on your board – cupcakes, cookies, whoopie cakes, cheesecake slices, chocolate-covered pretzels, rice krispie treats, etc.
5. Next, add fresh fruit.
6. Arrange candy in patterns around and across the board, filling in empty spaces with smaller treats.
7. Fill small bowls with smaller candies to complete your board.
8. Start with small amounts of each item – you can always refresh your platter as time goes by!
