SIMPLE & EASY RED, WHITE & BLUE ENTERTAINING!

When I think of summertime celebrations, I think of barbecues, picnics, parades and fireworks, with family and friends gathering in a casual, relaxed setting to laugh and just have fun.

Food that is unfussy, comforting, rustic, and maybe even quirky is typically involved. A sweet treats grazing board is the perfect fit, because you can choose tasty patriotic-themed foods and serve them in a way that people can help themselves and come back for more. The absolute easiest way to entertain!

FOR MY STAR SPANGLED SWEETS BOARD I USED THE FOLLOWING:

Patriotic Star Spangled Sugar Cookies
Triple Chocolate Brownie Bites with Fudge Frosting & Summer Berries

CHARCUTERIE & TREAT BOARDS ARE SUCH A TIME SAVER!

If you're short on time or need a last minute idea, most grocery stores and bakeries have a wonderful selection of red, white and blue treats this time of year, and you can easily build this board with easy-to-pick-up items for even more convenience and fun!

My little ones had soooo much fun helping me put this together! They loved making a list, shopping for their summertime favorites, helping to bake and decorate with sprinkles, and helping to place everything on the board.

The secret of a great sweet & treats board is to find your favorites treats – and to have a few surprises! The goal is to assemble a board filled with texture and color that fits with your theme.

INGREDIENTS:

For my Star Spangled Sweets Board, I used a fun and festive mix of some homemade treats and some store-bought items too. Mix and match your favorites for something wonderful and unique every time – whether you’re making it for your little ones, or as a treat to enjoy for a summertime patriotic celebration! Pick your favorites and HAVE FUN!

BAKERY & HOMEMADE TREATS:

Triple Chocolate Brownie Bites with Fudge Frosting & Fresh Summer Berries
Patriotic Star Spangled Sugar Cookies – some simple, some decorated
Red, White & Blue Rice Krispies Scotcheroos
Chocolate Covered Strawberries

FRESH SUMMER FRUIT:

Strawberries
Raspberries
Blueberries
Blackberries
Cherries
Red Seedless Grapes

PATRIOTIC CANDIES:

Red, White & Blue Tootsie Rolls
Sour Cherry Balls

OPTIONAL: Creamy Fruit Dip

MIX IT UP – ADD MORE FUN & FESTIVE, SWEET & SAVORY TREATS IF YOU’D LIKE!

Firecracker Cupcakes
Patriotic Whoopie Cakes (Chocolate with Marshmallow Cream Filling & Star Sprinkles)
Popcorn
White Chocolate Covered Pretzels with Patriotic Sprinkles
Yogurt Covered Raisins
Red, White & Blue M&M’s
Patriotic Gummi Bears
Red Licorice
Marshmallows
Fresh Watermelon Wedges

HOW I MAKE THIS:

Choose a nice solid cutting board or wooden serving tray to create your platter.
Set out your favorites so that you know what you’ll be working with.
Place small dishes or bowls on board that will hold smaller treats.
Next, place larger bakery items on your board – brownies, cupcakes, cookies, whoopie cakes, cheesecake slices, chocolate-covered pretzels, etc.
Next, add fresh fruit. Add fruit dip (optional) in a star-shaped serving bowl.
Arrange candy in patterns around and across the board, filling in empty spaces with smaller treats.
Fill small bowls with smaller candies to complete your board.
Start with small amounts of each item – you can always refresh your platter as time goes by.

YIELD: Serves 4 - 20 and perfect for a summertime party!
