When family and friends gather at our home for winter celebrations, one of my favorite things to pull together is an outdoor themed Northwoods Songbird Charcuterie Board – easily customized with Pine Cone Cheese Balls, meats and cheeses, hearty crackers, winter berries and a fun selection of nuts.
For special celebrations, we have a family of chickadees that join us - so quirky and fun! There’s no better way to celebrate the winter season with a crowd, or for a quiet and relaxed night at home with family.
SIMPLE & EASY ENTERTAINING!
When I think of wintertime celebrations, I think of all the holidays, special times spent at Gunflint Lodge, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, sledding & skating parties, with family and friends gathering by a roaring fireplace in a casual, relaxed setting to laugh and just have fun.
Food that is unfussy, comforting, rustic, and maybe even quirky is typically involved. A grazing board is the perfect fit, because you can choose tasty northwood-themed foods and serve them in a way that people can help themselves and come back for more. The absolute easiest way to entertain!
Add a sprig of holiday greenery and a trio of sweet Chickadees peeking over seasonal pinecones, fruits and nuts, and we've got a winter party!

CAN I MAKE A VEGAN OR ALLERGY-FRIENDLY CHARCUTERIE BOARD?
A vegan cheese board is similar to a traditional charcuterie board, but with a vegan twist when it contains plant based cured meats, dairy-free (vegan) cheeses and crackers, together with fruits and vegetables. I recommend using food labels to identify what each item is so there is no confusion! My Northwoods Charcuterie Board is the perfect place to start!

HOW TO SAFELY SERVE CHARCUTERIE BOARDS:
FOR MY NORTHWOODS CHARCUTERIE BOARD I USED:
The secret of a great charcuterie board is to find fresh flavors and textures that work for you and your friends. Mix and match your favorite cheeses, meats, fruits, nuts and condiments for something wonderful and unique every time!
CHEESE: a selection of 3 or 4 is the way to go. One cheese should be soft and creamy; another firm and aged, another flavorful, and another that is seasonal and different. Some of our favorites include:
MEAT: a selection of 3 Italian sliced deli-meats is the magic number. Something spicy, something peppery, and something traditional. For Christmas holidays and New Year celebrations, I like to include a selection of seafood as well! Some of our favorites include:
SPREADABLES: a selection of 1 or 2 gives you a nice balance. Something with an edge – and another that is a simple surprise. Some of my favorites include:
NUTS & CHOCOLATES: you can’t go wrong here at all with a selection of 3. Something simple and roasted, another spicy, and something sweet – the perfect trifecta of favorites. Popular choices include:
FRUITS & VEGETABLES: a selection of seasonal fruit and traditional vegies, both fresh and dried, gives you a nice balance and a burst of color. Some of our winter favorites are:
GARNISHES & CONDIMENTS: a simple selection of 2 or 3 rounds everything out – something sweet and something savory. Crowd favorites include:
CRACKERS & BREAD: a selection of 3 is the perfect amount – if you don’t have room on your platter, you can place them in a basket next to your board. Some favorites are:
FAVORITE WINES: Pick a few of your favorites and you’ve got an instant party! You can’t go wrong with a red and white, something dry and something sweet:
HOW I MADE THIS:
YIELD: This was the perfect board for 8 – but it serves a crowd!
