Time to share the recipe for Mama V's signature Hawaiian Burgers! As much as my family loves a good old-fashioned cheeseburger hot and fresh from the grill, with all the fixings, this burger combination is absolute perfection! The first time I made these, I asked the kids and hubby to just trust me. The reward is a fabulous stack of sautéed red bell pepper slices, sweet Maui onions, grilled caramelized pineapple slices, all layered on top of a juicy beef burger that is topped by a sweet Hawaiian barbeque sauce and melty provolone cheese. I slather the sweet Hawaiian hamburger buns with a special little sauce that really ramps up the WOW factor. These take a bit more time to prepare than your usual burger on the grill, but man oh man, these are something else when you get them put together and dive in for that first bite! I start by grilling up fresh red bell pepper slices and thick sweet Maui onion slices (you can also use Vidalia onions or purple onions). Pineapple slices caramelize when grilled and are beyond delicious! To make it easier for flipping, I used a grill pan on top of the grill grate. Once the red peppers, onions and pineapple are grilled to perfection, cover them up and set them aside for a few minutes. The fresh ground beef is secretly loaded with a bit of Hawaiian barbeque sauce and crushed pineapple, and grilled to medium. Flip those burgers over and slather with a bit more Hawaiian barbeque sauce and top with provolone cheese slices and cover just until the cheese is melted. Sweet Hawaiian Sandwich Buns (not to be confused with the smaller dinner rolls) are slathered with a secret sauce and grilled until golden brown, and then it is time to start stacking these beauties! The flavor combination is out-of-this-world, and this may very well be the most juicy and flavorful burger you have ever had the pleasure to eat! Hope that you enjoy this recipe as much as we do!
