I "short-cut" making this by steaming my potatoes ahead of time, and sauteeing the onions so that they are caramely and sweet. The tender potatoes are piled three levels high, with a velvety and rich triple cheddar sauce that is so good!
My gang loves the buttery Hawaiian Sweet Bread crumb topping, and instead of having them fight over who takes the "most" of it, I just make LOT of it. The flavorful topping is really just the perfect touch!
