One of my organizing goals for 2017 was to purge my extensive cookbook collection. Seriously - I had hundreds of cookbooks! There are really only a dozen or so that I really love and refer back to over and over again, and those will always be on my shelf. But of course, there are always new cookbooks coming out, and being the foodie that I am, I love paging through a wonderful new cookbook as much as a great novel! I'm always looking for inspiration or new ideas!
In terms of new cookbooks released in 2017, it really was a lackluster year, with a few exceptions. If you love cookbooks as much as I do, if you love looking at great food photography (or food porn, as some may call it), or if you really love great new recipes with wonderful presentation and stories to go with them, I heartily recommend the following four cookbooks which made my "Best of 2017 New Cookbooks" list! These are the only ones that I added to my personal collection this year!
SALLY'S COOKING ADDICTION
My favorite new cookbook of the year! Sally is one of my favorite fellow food bloggers and source of wonderful recipes and ideas always! This is her third cookbook, and it was eagerly anticipated! So many great cookie recipes, I hardly know where to start! She is as nice as can be, and I've been able to spend time with her and have her sign my other two cookbooks that she authored - Sally's Baking Addiction and Sally's Candy Addiction. For anyone wanting specific instructions with the science behind it all explained, Sally's your girl! And if there's anyone I would love to spend a day baking with, it's Sally!
OUR SWEET BASIL KITCHEN
Another of my favorite food bloggers has created a wonderful book, full of stories and fabulous recipes! I have the Kindle version, but really wish that I had the hardcover sitting on my bookshelf - it's that good!
CRAVINGS by Chrissy Teigen
Okay, this cookbook technically came out in 2016, but I was hesitant to get on the Chrissy Teigen bandwagon. She's hysterical and funny, but who knew she is also an amazing and inspired cook? And if you put on your favorite John Legend CD while your cooking her recipes, it's kinda perfect! She's got some pretty unique and wonderful recipes!
PIONEER WOMAN COOKS: COME AND GET IT!
From the woman that started the food blogging business the best - Ree Drummond is simply inspired! Wonderful down-home recipes, easy directions, and great photography and stories to boot! I don't really care for her kitschy kitchen products, but her recipes are solid.
There's always room on my bookshelves for GREAT cookbooks - but I've also found that it's better to only hang to the ones that are tried and true, my absolute favorites that I refer back to over and over again! So many recipes, so little time - but I guess that's what 2018 will be all about!
