Christmas time is always filled with memories of favorite holiday cookies - almost too many to mention!
These delicate butter cookies are one of the first cookies I made all by myself. by the time I was twelve I had received my first cookbook - the Betty Crocker Children's Cookbook, and I was so inspired!
Perfect for making with another baking friend - these are a really putzie cookie - it takes a bit of time and patience to roll the cookie dough ropes evenly and make these just so - especially if you have any perfectionist tendencies, but they just look so darn cute on a cookie platter on Christmas Eve!
The cinnamon flavor is a nice twist - but if you prefer peppermint flavor, you could use that as well. These cookies are so tender that they just melt in your mouth! You can also sprinkle these with a bit of sparkling sugar before baking if you want to add a little extra shimmer to your cookie plate.
I store these on the same parchment paper that I bake them on - just cut the paper to the size of the container you want to store them in. You can make ahead and freeze - defrost the day that you want to serve. But remember - soft butter cookies will take on the flavor of other cookies, so store these cinnamon-flavored treats all by themselves.
