 Chocolate Cake Waffles When I first heard about this recipe - waffles made from a cake mix, I couldn't believe how simple it seemed. And it is! These bake up like a dream, and if you start thinking about all of the cake flavors out there right now, it will make your brain go dizzy with ideas - brown sugar maple waffles, spicy apple waffles, lemon waffles, caramel apple waffles....gah!  Chocolate Cake Waffles We've always been a fan of thick Belgian Waffles, but other chocolate recipes I have tried have been on the dry and not so sweet side. I was a little hesitant about what the texture would be like, what the taste would be like, and whether or not this would make an absolute mess of my waffle maker. Surprise! Tender, soft and cakey waffles, with a true chocolate cake flavor. The batter spreads evenly on its own, and cook evenly and quickly. We were pulling these off the waffle maker every few minutes to surrender to waiting plates. You could serve these for breakfast (natch) or even as a dessert waffle. Top with a drizzle of whatever syrup compliments your waffle flavor - raspberry or chocolate drizzled on chocolate cake waffles, maple syrup on maple brown sugar waffles, a smear of lemon curd and blueberry syrup on lemon waffles - the possibilities are endless! Top with fresh whipped cream, fresh berries, ice cream, a dusting of powdered sugar - so many ideas! I'm thinking these will make a wonderful Valentine's Day surprise in a month!
