This cake was actually so stinking easy to make! Pound cake is used for the logs - you can cut and trim them to look exactly like firewood. Cookie crumbs make for a great campfire base, with extra cookie crumbs and powdered sugar sprinkled over the top to look like ashes. And the best part - a swirl of melted hard candies (Jolly Rancher Cinnamon Fire red candies and butterscotch candies) melt together in just 10 minutes in the oven. Once they cool, break the candy sheet into fire "shards" and place in the middle of the campfire. I've used this method to make "stained glass windows" for gingerbread houses and holiday cookies - but this really takes it to a new level, don't you think? And the smell of the warm butterscotch and spicy cinnamon candy as it melted in the oven was HEAVENLY! The entire house smelled like warm, fragrant cinnamon - it was unbelievable! I'm already thinking of ways that I can incorporate this "fire" concept into a firetruck-themed birthday! You can safely place birthday candles between the candy fire shards, and light them for a wonderful campfire effect. The fire is shimmery and clear - looks just like the real thing with the glow of candles. Once you cut the cake, the inside of the log looks EXACTLY like fresh pine! This recipe easily makes enough frosting for two to three fireplace logs. This easily serves 16 to 20 people, but you can add more logs as necessary for your party! Nothing fancy about it - just a lot of fun! Perfect for Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and all the little campers in my life! We cooked up his favorite campfire foods, and it was a quick and fabulous party - everyone was so excited to sit around the campfire and celebrate. All we need is some S'Mores now! And to my sweet son - Happy Birthday Adam! Wishing you a lifetime of wonderful campfire memories! Love always, Mama V
