I'm not sure what it is about Blackberry Jam that reminds me of childhood...it just makes me happy! And now that the blackberry bushes are full of ripe fruit, and buckets of fresh blackberries are sweet, ripe and plentiful, now is the perfect time to cook some up!
This homemade Blackberry Jam is so stinking easy to make, that it really is a good project to make with your little ones. No pectin involved, not hot water bath...just a simple and easy refrigerator jam that is perfect on just about anything! It never lasts long around our house, but you can keep it in the refrigerator for up to a month. I use it as a base for my Blackberry Hoisin Ginger Sauce & Glaze, and also for a special little treat I'll be sharing with you tomorrow. And this slightly sweet, perfectly fresh jam is wonderful on warm toast or on fresh croissants. Heaven! There was major discussion this morning about what the difference is between jelly, jam and preserves. Do you know? Jellies are typically made with fruit juice, preserves have thick chunks of fruit, and jam has smashed fruit or berries in it. Nothing complicated - but everyone has their preference! Other than fresh concord grape jam, I don't think there is a more delicious or more rich purple color than Blackberry Jam! And the flavor? It's out of this world! You'll want to make some of this up soon - everyone needs a little homemade jam in the summer. Hope that you enjoy! Mama V

This brings back memories of picking berries and making jelly with my grandma and mom. So much fun! I'm going to try this with my little ones!
