Today I am sharing a recipe of memories, and hope for the future.
We visited the fifty-acre sunflower patch of Planting Hope Sunflower Garden in Avon, Ohio to honor the September birthdays of my Mom and Dad. This enormous field of sunflowers is intended to raise awareness about the lack of funding available for research into children's brain cancer. My parents loved their children and grandchildren so much...and for the few weeks that the sunflowers are in bloom each September, it is breathtaking! Although you probably won't notice it, there are memory cards placed on many of the sunflowers in this field, and it is just such a peaceful place to walk around on a sunny afternoon - happy sunflowers for as far as you can see!
Prayers From Maria - Children's Glioma Cancer Foundation was created by the parents of Maria McNamara in honor of their seven-year-old daughter, dedicated to funding global research into the causes, prevention, treatments and cure for childhood brain tumors. 99% of children diagnosed with brainstem gliomas don't survive. Planting of the Sunflower Field takes place in June of each year, and a Sunflower Wine Festival and Sunflower Soiree are held in July.
