My kiddos have such a hard time picking their favorite cookies - how about you? If we had to pick the top five, it would probably be Chewy Chocolate Chunk Cookies, Oatmeal Raisin Cookies, Classic Peanut Butter Cookies, Sugar Cookies, and Classic Snickerdoodles - but not necessarily in that order. As long as they are homemade, fresh and warm from the oven, my little ones all turn into little cookie monsters!
Now that school is back in full swing, I've got some of their favorites baked up and waiting for them when they get home. A tall glass of milk, a couple of cookies, and now they are ready to tackle homework!
These English Toffee & Pecan Snickerdoodles are a wonderful twist on a traditional snickerdoodle cookie. So chewy and thick - a bakery style praline cookie that you will fall in love with, bite after bite!
We love long, lazy holiday weekends, and we love grilling and relaxing on the deck or at the cabin. With everyone getting used to a new school schedule and family time always at a premium, Labor Day weekend has always been a family favorite.
Luckily there is still fresh salmon being flown in every day from Alaska, so it's the perfect time to make one of our favorite grilled salmon recipes!
A creamy grilling sauce is so very easy to make at home. A simple recipe filled with fresh herbs, Dijon mustard and mayo results in in an unbelievably moist, buttery salmon, just loaded with fresh flavor.
Who doesn't love the smell of cinnamon rolls baking in the oven? And drizzled with warm maple glaze? Heavenly!
One of my favorite memories with my Mom were the times we had a quiet morning together and could enjoy some homemade cinnamon rolls - and she always loved it when I would make these extra-special Maple Glazed Cinnamon Butterflake Rolls! So easy to prepare, and much faster than traditional rolled cinnamon rolls!
Holy buttermilk and bananas Batman! My little ones go absolutely CRAZY for Buttermilk Banana Bread! Simple, sweet and oh so good!
It's hard to improve on our fast and easy family-favorite Banana Bread recipe, but this Buttermilk Banana Bread always disappears as fast as I can slice it! Buttermilk and ripe bananas team up for the moistest sweet bread - almost like a banana pound cake, but with a rich buttery crumb. This recipe makes wonderful Buttermilk Banana Muffins too!
How is your garden growing this year? Our tomatoes had a late start with the crazy spring weather, but now we seem to have a bumper crop of just about everything. Crazy sweet tiny tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, sugar snap peas and peppers can't be picked and eaten fast enough! And if you don't have your own garden, the fresh vegies at the market look wonderful too!
My family loves fresh vegies - and they especially LOVE dipping baby carrots, sliced cucumbers and sugar snap peas into this homemade Fresh Spinach Dip! And until you have tried this easy-to-make recipe with absolutely NO PRE-PACKAGED DRY SOUP MIX or squeezing frozen spinach, you don't know how good and flavorful Fresh Spinach Dip can be!
I have to be honest with you...I haven't always been a lemon fan. When I was younger, I much preferred chocolate and peanut butter. I've heard that your tastebuds do change as you get older, so I'm not sure if that is it or not, but now I crave anything lemon, lime or raspberry. I also remember my great-grandmother offering me lemon drops out of the prettiest little blue dish when we would visit - so tart and so sweet! Did your grandparents have a candy jar waiting for your visits too?
But for some serious goodness, if you love lemon as much as I do, you are going to LOVE this old-fashioned Iced Lemon Pound Cake. The perfect pound cake for summer - loaded with sweet and zingy lemon flavor, and the freshest lemon glaze ever! You won't believe my secret ingredient - lemon yogurt with the tart sweetness of lemon curd - this is a triple lemon delight! Just like an old-fashioned lemon drop!
I'm gonna let you in on a little secret today! If you are looking for a fast, easy and simple appetizer or after-school snack, these sweet little Peach Barbecue Little Smokies are going to knock your socks off! Always a favorite at our house for football or Super Bowl parties, they make a perfect little snack any time of year!
Long time a family favorite, I like to switch these up every now and then and make them Apricot Barbecue Little Smokies. And you can make them as sweet and tender or smoky hot as you want to. Perfect for your littles, but you can also fire 'em up for the big ones too!
During the hot days of summer, I try to keep my cooking as fast and easy as I can. Summer days pass far too quickly to spend a lot of time in the kitchen, and it's always great to pull out a long-time favorite family recipe and remember just how easy it is to cook up something wonderful!
This recipe is so easy that even the little ones can help make it. Five minutes and you'll have the best roasted potatoes ever ready for the oven or grill!
Summertime or in the winter, one of our favorite places to spend time is Gunflint Lodge in the middle the Superior National Forest. They always have trays of fresh-baked cookies waiting for guests when they come in after a long day outdoors. I'm not sure if it's just because we're all so dang hungry after a full day of activities hiking, canoeing, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing, but these GIANT cookies always taste like the best thing you've ever had!
This is my take on a cookie that really defies description. The cookie dough is not your typical cookie dough - it is so loaded with "extras" that it almost seems like an inside-out cookie. Rather than a soft and chewy cookie that has a few chocolate chips, this cookie dough is really just a means to an end - to hold a hearty and delicious mix of granola, chocolate chips, raisins and roasted peanuts together.
If you have a family of outdoor lovers, they are going to think they have died and gone to heaven after munching on one of these chewy and delicious cookies!
Today is one of those special days that only comes around once a year - National Cheesecake Day! Another one of those crazy food holidays that gets a lot of media attention - and for good reason!
Cheesecake is usually my go-to when I need to make a fancy schmancy dessert. You can make it a million different ways - traditional New York style baked up creamy and perfect, or any of the creamy and silky non-bake versions that are perfect on a hot summer day. Classic New York style, chocolate, peanut butter and caramel, fresh fruits and flowers, we've made them all!
My family loves cheesecake, but it's funny how every one of them has their own favorite. I've even been asked to bake cheesecake instead of birthday cakes, which just seems wrong don't you think? Perfect for a crowd too, and a cheesecake buffet is always a LOT of fun that doesn't take a lot of work!
Through the years I've discovered a lot of neat little tricks for making cheesecake that will have you making the easiest and prettiest cheesecakes ever. A guaranteed no-crack method for baking is another little secret. Low and slow, and give yourself a couple of days to make these in advance of your event. You'll have the perfect texture, and no last-minute rushing around because these are just the easiest things ever to make ahead of time and serve when you are ready to serve. Which one is your favorite? It's so hard to decide!

As we were sipping on these while we watched the final race for the Triple Crown, I realized that mint juleps are NOT just for the Kentucky Derby, and this sweet little variation is so good that we've been sipping on them during springtime and now on hot summer days. And both the fragrance and taste from the combination of hibiscus, mint and blueberries is INTOXICATING!
Signature drinks are all the rage right now, and this little beauty is one I've been whipping up for years, and its always a favorite! Not only pretty to serve, but so fresh and refreshing.
Life is sometimes so exciting! One of my sweet daughters is getting married this November, and I've been asked to bring breakfast for the wedding party on her wedding day. She tells me that my Banana Bread, Chocolate Chip Banana Bread and muffins are the best way to start her day, and I couldn't be happier! Now the hard part will be trying to decide what to make for her special day...
Muffin Mondays take on a whole new meaning now! Sweet, buttery, extra soft, and just loaded with fresh juicy raspberries. Made with old-fashioned oats and sweetened with just a touch of brown sugar, and so easy to make. My family LOVES these warm, right out of the oven with a smear of butter!
Hot time in the city! These are the days we dream of in the middle of winter - hot, muggy and so sunny! Glorious hot and sunny! Filled with family and friends and lots of spur-of-the-moment picnics and get-togethers.
It's the perfect day to whip up an easy summer rhubarb dessert that everyone loves! I usually whip this up in the morning and serve later in the day - so easy and so delicious! The rhubarb bakes into a sweetly tart topping for your favorite moist white or yellow cake. And did I say it was so super-simple easy that a five-year-old could help?
With five lovely daughters, there are days when we just need chocolate in our house. Deep, dark, fudgy, chocolate. And for those times that you can't decide between dark, fudgy brownies and moist chocolate-chip banana bread, we've got the perfect combination!
My family LOVES banana bread - plain, simple, every day! But they LOVE rich and moist banana bread filled with mini-chocolate chips! This variation of our favorite is tried and true, deep and dark, tender, flavorful, and super-moist!
Now that summer is in full swing, everyone seems to be a little bit pickier about eating at my house. There seems to be a lot more grazing and nibbling during the day, and everyone is eating just a little bit lighter and leaner.
Fresh and tender chicken salad is always a favorite during the hot summer months, and whether you put this deliciously tender chicken salad in a sandwich, scoop it onto crisp green garden greens, or serve in pretty little finger sandwiches for garden teas, baby or bridal showers, it is always a favorite!
