On a warm and lazy summer morning, Maple Cinnamon Toast is a family favorite. My Mom used to make this for us when we were little, and we loved it then...my kids love it now. Don't confuse this with regular ol' cinnamon toast - when this is cooked up, it takes cinnamon toast to the next level.
This morning I used fresh Tosta Artesan Bread (from Costco), but you can also use French bread. Heat up a non-stick pan on medium heat, spread some soft butter or margarine on your bread, and sprinkle liberally with Cinnamon Maple Sprinkle Sugar (you can also use cinnamon sugar).
Place the bread in the pan butter & sugar side down, swirling slightly with your fingertips or a spatula, until the edges become golden and the cinnamon sugar just starts to caramelize. If you are using French bread, you can spread the butter & cinnamon sugar mixture on the other side and then flip, again circulating gently until golden.
Serve these warm, and don't try and stack them - the caramelized tops will stick together.
Perfect on a summer day, with a cup of fresh coffee or fresh-squeezed orange juice. These are also very easy to make for a camping breakfast. The melted butter soaks down into the fresh bread, and the golden top is tender and melted caramel. When your teeth break thru the tender topping and you slide into a maple cinnamon haze, you'll know exactly what I mean. If you don't have time to whip of a batch of fresh cinnamon rolls, this is the next best thing. Enjoy!
